Environmental Fate of Esfenvalerate

چکیده

This document provides a review of the environmental fate of esfenvalerate, chemical name: (S)-αcyano-3-phenoxybenzyl-(S)-2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyrate. Esfenvalerate is a mixture of four stereoisomers (Table 1), enriched with the S,S-isomer, the most insecticidally active isomer. The parent mixture, fenvalerate, is a mixture of the same four isomers in relatively equal proportions (Table 1). Thus, this review of esfenvalerate contains data from studies documenting the environmental fate of fenvalerate. The toxicity of the two-isomer mixtures to insects and a variety of non-target organisms has been well documented; however, the environmental chemistry and fate of both mixtures is comparable.

Fate and effects of esfenvalerate in agricultural ponds.

The fate of esfenvalerate was investigated by sampling and chemical analysis after spraying of an artificial pond (25 g a.i./ha) and in the laboratory with [14C]esfenvalerate by trapping of 14CO2 and fractionation of the sediment. The effects were investigated on pelagic communities in enclosures in a natural lake and in the laboratory on surface (Cymatia coleoptrata) and sediment (Chironomus r...

Effects of dietary exposure to the pyrethroid pesticide esfenvalerate on medaka (Oryzias latipes).

The pyrethroid insecticide esfenvalerate is widely used on orchard crops throughout California. In the aquatic environment, this compound is likely to accumulate in sediments, food particles and benthic organisms due to its lipophilicity and environmental persistence. This pilot project tested the hypothesis that esfenvalerate is toxic to medaka (Oryzias latipes) when taken up with the diet. Fo...

Species differences in the in vitro metabolism of deltamethrin and esfenvalerate: differential oxidative and hydrolytic metabolism by humans and rats.

Pyrethroids are neurotoxic pesticides whose pharmacokinetic behavior plays a role in their potency. This study examined the elimination of esfenvalerate and deltamethrin from rat and human liver microsomes. A parent depletion approach in the presence and absence of NADPH was used to assess species differences in biotransformation pathways, rates of elimination, and intrinsic hepatic clearance. ...

Identification of rat and human cytochrome p450 isoforms and a rat serum esterase that metabolize the pyrethroid insecticides deltamethrin and esfenvalerate.

The metabolism of (alphaS)-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl (1R, 3R)-cis-3-(2,2-dibromovinyl)-2,2-dimethylcyclopropane carboxylate (deltamethrin) and (alphaS)-cyano-3-phenoxybenzyl 2-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-methylbutyrate (esfenvalerate) by rat and human liver microsomes differs with respect to the biotransformation pathway (oxidation versus hydrolysis) responsible for their clearance. This study aims to furth...

Effects of dietary esfenvalerate exposures on three aquatic insect species representing different functional feeding groups.

Given the chemical properties of synthetic pyrethroids, it is probable that compounds, including esfenvalerate, that enter surface waters may become incorporated into aquatic insect food sources. We examined the effect of dietary esfenvalerate uptake in aquatic insects representing different functional feeding groups. We used three field-collected aquatic insect species: A grazing scraper, Ciny...
